To Forgive and Forget? Exploring the Student Loan Forgiveness Debate in America

One of President Joe Biden’s most prominent campaign promises was student loan forgiveness. After months of debating, in August of 2022, President Biden confirmed he would be ordering that $10,000 of student loan debt be waived for individuals earning less than $125,000 or couples earning less than $250,000. Both the leadup to, and the final decision have been met with intense criticism from all sides of the political spectrum. But why?
